The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is offering online training to support mental health professionals working with people affected by forced adoption. These have been funded by the Australian Government and are free to eligible professionals including: counsellors, social workers, psychologists and Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Workers.
There are two packages being funded:
This is a one hour training package which gives an overview on past Australian policies and practices and the impact it had on those affected.
This eight-hour training package provides an overview of past forced adoption policies and practices in Australia. Frameworks and guidelines are suggested to guide clinical work and help build effective therapeutic relationships.
